  • Research at the interface of organic agriculture, variety evaluation, postharvest physiology, and metabolomics.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research projects involving field trials, quality analytics, and knowledge transfer for organic farming.

Selected Research Projects

Dr. Maria Luisa Romo Pérez is an agricultural scientist and research associate whose research focuses on the quality of plant products, especially in the organic cultivation of vegetables, with a particular emphasis on onions. Her work centers on the evaluation of open-pollinated and traditional onion landraces, questions of storability, postharvest quality, and the analysis of compound profiles and stress responses. Through her work, she combines field trials, quality analytics, and metabolic characterization with application-oriented research questions for organic farming and the transfer of knowledge into practice.

Selected Research Project

  • RobustGemuese – Resilience in organic vegetable production - development and testing of strategies and innovation through on-farm research (2026 - ongoing)
  • ZwiebÖL – Exploration of the potential of traditional onion landraces for organic farming (2020 - 2025).
  • Product quality of onions from organic cultivation / quality assessment and storage behavior of onions in organic farming.
