Short Description:
The agricultural sector faces growing challenges, such as the decline in biodiversity, increasing extreme weather events due to climate change, rising societal expectations around issues like animal welfare, and decreasing incomes for those working in agriculture. These challenges must be addressed sustainably. While research has proposed several solutions, they have been implemented too slowly and insufficiently in practice. One reason for this is that many stakeholders lack the necessary knowledge to apply sustainability concepts developed in theory to real-world practice.
This is where the "Community for Applied Agricultural Sustainability Teaching" (CAAST) project comes in. The project's goal is to support lecturers in agricultural sciences, environmental studies, and sustainability programs in teaching students practical skills for designing sustainable agricultural and food systems. After their education, these young professionals will act as "Change Agents," driving the transition towards greater sustainability in the agricultural sector. At the heart of the project is the creation of a vibrant "Community of Practice" among interested lecturers. Within this network, participants can develop, share, and exchange teaching concepts and materials. This approach allows for the pooling and multiplying of resources and ideas.
