Brief Description:

The agricultural sector faces growing challenges such as declining biodiversity, increasing extreme weather events due to climate change, growing societal expectations, for example on animal welfare, and low incomes for farm workers. Although research has found a number of solutions in the past, implementation in practice is too slow and too few. One reason for this is that many actors lack the necessary skills to put theoretical sustainability concepts into practice.

This is where the project "Community for applied agricultural sustainability teaching" (CAAST) comes in. The aim of the project is to support lecturers at agricultural science faculties and in environmental and sustainability programs in teaching students practical skills for designing sustainable agricultural and food systems. After their training, the young professionals will then act as "change agents" and thus drive the transformation to more sustainability in the agricultural sector.

The project focuses on building a vibrant "community of practice" of interested lecturers. Within the community, participants develop, exchange, and share experiences on teaching concepts and materials. In this way, both materials and ideas are brought together and multiplied at the same time.
