The project is divided into six work packages (WP), which are closely coordinated by the University of Hohenheim's Center for Organic Farming (Led by ZÖLUH) (WP 1). In the first step, accessions will be identified and selected (WP 2, led by the Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research - IPK), which will then be tested for their agronomic traits and suitability for mixed cropping systems (WP 3, led by ZÖLUH in collaboration with the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research - ZALF). In WP 4 (led by the University of Hohenheim, Institute of Crop Science - UHO), the nutritional properties of the accessions will be studied. Meanwhile, in WP 5 (led by ZALF in collaboration with IPK), the yield stability of the best selections under drought and heat stress, as well as their nitrogen-fixation capacity, will be measured. Finally, WP 6 (led by ZÖLUH in collaboration with ZALF) will take a participatory approach to bring together the findings from WP 2 to WP 5, define selection criteria in cooperation with farmers and breeding companies, and test the most promising genotypes in on-farm trials.
